Blessed, a Mandarin-English gospel pop group founded in 2004 in the San Francisco Bay Area, is reimagining Leonard Cohen's timeless classic 'Hallelujah' with a soulful and festive touch on the eve of their 20th anniversary. Since its release in 1984, this iconic song has been covered by countless famed musicians and groups. In Blessed’s rendition, producer YaoYao takes the group’s dynamic vocals - blending Lily’s pop, Annie’s classical, Angela’s R&B, and Kitty’s acapella interpretations - to breathe new life into the song. As a reflection of their journeys in the last 19 years, the group has added a Mandarin verse reiterating Cohen’s message - in a life filled with challenges and suffering, we can still praise God with a resounding “Hallelujah”.
